Foreclosures

From time to time, the Code Enforcement Department receives complaints concerning abandoned or foreclosed properties. Typically, the complaints are related to high grass and weeds due to the home being vacant. There are other signs the home may be vacant as well.

Vacant properties can often become a nuisance and an eyesore. Locating the responsible party to maintain the property can be difficult. Often, the process of foreclosure can take between 6 to 14 months, or more. During this time, the home is often left vacant for extended periods of time as the bank or lender processes paperwork to take possession of the property.

It is important to contact Code Enforcement to help ensure the City is aware that there is a problem. However, as with any Code Enforcement complaint, it can often take several days or weeks to locate the responsible party and abate the nuisance.
