The Hewitt Fire Department accepts applications for Certified Firefighters and Non-Certified Fire Cadets. Certified Firefighters that meet the minimum requirements will be preferred.
Non-Certified Fire Cadets must meet the minimum qualifications, attend and successfully complete a Fire Academy and an EMT Basic course. Both courses will be provided by the Fire Department. The rate of $17.696 is for Non-Certified Fire Cadets while attending the courses.

The City of Hewitt is located in McLennan County on the outskirts of the City of Waco. The Fire Department operates out of one fire station 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Personnel operate on a 48/96 schedule, two days on and four days off. The Department currently consists of nine Firefighters, three Lieutenants, three Captains, and one Fire Chief. In 2022, the department responded to 1687 calls for service that consisted of structural fires, vehicle fires, grass and brush fires, motor vehicle collisions, vehicle extrications, hazardous materials incidents, and first response to medical emergencies.
The Fire Department is currently expanding its capabilities for service. We are preparing to add additional personnel for future plans of opening a second station. Plans for a second station have begun with a tentative opening date in 2025-2026. Engine 2 is in the process of being constructed and has an expected delivery date in mid 2024 .
