Chief John McGrath has 32 years of municipal law enforcement experience and was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Hewitt, Texas in April 2023. Prior to his appointment in Hewitt, McGrath served over 31 years with the Arlington Texas Police Department and retired as a Deputy Chief. Chief McGrath graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Tarleton State University with a Masters of Criminal Justice Degree. He is a graduate of the 282nd session of the FBI National Academy, 61st session of the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), and the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration 53rd School of Executive Leadership. Chief McGrath is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Texas Police Chiefs Association, and the Central Texas Area Chiefs of Police and Sheriffs Association.
