Tax Exemptions

Homestead Exemption
As a resident of Hewitt, you are eligible for a 20% homestead exemption.  This means that
you do not pay taxes on the full value of your home, only 80%.

Hewitt is the only city in McLennan County that offers you this great a savings.

For a quick calculation of your homestead taxes, multiply the current tax rate of .539677 by 80%.  This means you only pay a tax rate of .4317 per $100 of valuation.

                        Average Home Value in Hewitt: $137,000 x 80% = $109,600

                                                Tax at 100%    =   $739.36
                                                Tax at   80%    =   $591.48
                                                Hewitt Savings =  $147.88

The greater the value of your home, the greater the savings.
